FHSAA Important News and Deadlines FHSAA

MANDATORY: Heat Illness Education

 On Tuesday, June 12, 2018 the FHSAA Board of Directors amended Policies 40, 41 and 42 to emphasize the importance in educating all parties of the issues of concussions, heat illness and sudden cardiac arrest. From this point forward, all FHSAA member school head coaches, paid/supplemented coaches and student athletes will be required to complete the NFHS educational courses listed below:

Of specific interest to many is the increased emphasis regarding heat-related illnesses. The FHSAA staff will communicate multiple layers of information for member schools to include best practices, appropriate resources, frequently asked questions and more. This information will be communicated thoroughly to member schools prior to July 30, 2018, the first day of practice for fall sports.

Change of Account Default Year
All Home Campus user accounts will be defaulted to the 2018-19 year starting on June 18, 2018.You will be able to refer back to your 2017-18 account by using the following instructions: How To Change Your Home Campus Active Year.

The FHSAA is also in the process of planning a site wide student database rollover in July.  This rollover will promote all of your current students to the next grade level and remove current seniors. If you included any 8th graders in your database as 9th graders, you will be required to adjust their grade level accordingly. If you require any assistance, please email syoung@fhsaa.org.

12 Schools Receive Sportsmanship Award

The Florida High School Athletic Association is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s Fred E. Rozelle Sportsmanship Award. Recognizing member schools that promote sportsmanship both on and off the field, the award is given to schools whose athletic teams demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship during the 2017-2018 regular season as well as FHSAA State Series competition. This year, 10 high schools and two middle schools received the prestigious award.

24 Students Named to Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team

Morello and Barclay both maintained impressive 4.0 GPAs while participating in multiple sports. They each performed extensive amounts of community service and were recognized for many athletic and academic awards.In addition to these award winners, the rest of the 2018 Florida Dairy Farmers Academic All-State Team were honored at the event.

Financial Reports Due for Baseball, Softball and Football Spring Events
All financial reports MUST be submitted by the end of the fiscal year on June 30. All schools hosting a Baseball or Softball State Series event must submit an FN2 to the FHSAA within 30 days of event completion. Events due include District Playoffs, Regional Quarterfinals, Regional Semifinals, and Regional Finals. All schools hosting a Football Spring Classic must submit an FB4 to the FHSAA within 30 days of event completion.

All completed forms can be mailed with payment to the FHSAA office at 1801 NW 80th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606. If no revenue share is due to the FHSAA, forms can be emailed to
mbaranyk@fhsaa.org or faxed to (352) 244-5054.

FHSAA Baseball News
The FHSAA is currently seeking a host for the Florida High School Baseball State Championships for the 2019,  2020, and 2021 seasons. All interested parties must fill out the information here and return it to the FHSAA office by Thursday, July 12 at 5 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact William Adams at wadams@fhsaa.org.

In addition, the Florida High School Athletic Association  announced Wednesday that its baseball state series would be condensed beginning in 2019. No longer will there be one week between games. This happened on the same day the FHSAA produced a nation-best 10 first-round draft selections in the 2018 MLB Draft.

Wrestling Regional Host Applications

If your school is interested in serving as host for one of the 12 regional wrestling tournaments to be held on March 1 & 2, 2019, please submit your letter of invitation to the FHSAA Office no later than May 18, 2018.
